The Mahashivarathri festival was celebrated on Sunday with great fervour and devotion by people across the City.

Special pujas were conducted at various Shiva temples The Gavi Gangadhareshwara temple at Gavipura was adorned with flowers and resonating with hymns on Lord Shiva. Devotees thronged to seek the blessings of the deity. Shiva ‘archane’ and pujas were conducted under the leadership of main priest, Somasundar Dikshit.

In Malleswaram, similar pujas were carried out at the Nanditeertha temple and Kadu Malleswara temple. There was a special ‘abhisheka’ done on the Shivalinga of the Nanditeertha temple.

People visited Jalakanteshwara temple in Kalasipalya and Kashi Vishwanatha temple, Balepet in large numbers. The famous Shiva temple on Old Airport Road wore a vibrant look and special pujas were conducted in the presence of the devotees.

They kept a night vigil (jagarane), offering prayers to Lord Shiva. Apart from the pujas, there were humour festivals organised in different parts of the City.
