A public interest litigation has been filed in the High Court of Karnataka, seeking directions to protect the Kenkeramma Lake in Kanakapura, which is said to have been encroached upon by government authorities to build a community hall.

The encroached lake area measures 10 acres and 33 guntas. Petitioner Ravikumara Kanchanahalli said the authorities have dug up the tank bed and laid a cement pipe in the tank bund to divert the water, and ensure that it does not enter the tank bed. Thus, they have facilitated land grabbers to encroach the lake area easily, he said.

The petitioner sought direction to demolish all illegal structures in the lake area.
