City police have launched a training programme in intelligence gathering for constables and head constables attached to the special branch.
The first batch of 30 policemen have already been sent on a week-long training. The programme, conducted by senior officers at the State Intelligence Training Academy, will focus on honing the skills of cops in analysing intelligence. “Intelligence gathering and analysis are major lacunae in effective policing of the City. The initiative is aimed at overcoming the deficiency,” City Police Commissioner Raghavendra H Auradkar said.
During training, the policemen will be taught Special Branch Manual that has been developed exclusively for the State police. The police commissioner has also mooted better coordination between the City police and the Central zone. B Ramesh, the Bangalore Rural Superintendent of Police and V S D’Souza, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime-2) have been appointed as nodal officers for coordination.
The commissioner, on Monday, held a meeting with senior officials of City police and those from Kolar, KGF, Tumkur, Bangalore Rural and Ramanagar.
