The model code of conduct for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections will not affect finalising the advertising bylaws, the high court told the state government.

The court issued the direction after the government attributed the delay in preparing the draft BBMP outdoor signage and public messaging bylaws to the election code. It was hearing a public interest litigation petition asking its directions to remove hoardings and posters.

The court also told the government that it is giving a final chance to finish the draft bylaws by next week.

The court also allowed the BBMP to permit polling stations, banks, hospitals, schools and other places to display posters for election campaigns. This follows the filing of an affidavit by the BBMP, asking the court’s permission to display poll advertisements after it received a letter from the Election Commission of India.
