A popular pub in North Bengaluru has become a hotbed of Covid-19, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) found on Sunday.

N Chidananada, Joint Commissioner, BBMP, West Zone, said that random testing of hotel, restaurant and pub employees had found that 16 staff members of a popular eatery and watering hole — 1522 - The Pub, on New BEL Road in Mathikere — tested positive for Covid-19.

“A total of 87 staffers at the pub have been tested as part of our routine activities,” Chidananada said.

“All of the infected people are asymptomatic so far and have been allowed home isolation.”

The discovery of the new cluster is relatively rare for West Zone, which has so far found only two clusters. The largest numbers have been found in Yelahanka and Dasarahalli zones.

The joint commissioner explained that 78% of cases found in West Zone were in home isolation with 21% being hospitalised.

CCC receives 1st cases

The BBMP announced that its Haj Bhavan Covid Care Centre received its first new cases after being reactivated last week. As of 8 pm on Sunday, a total of 30 people had been admitted at the centre, out of which 22 were men and eight were women.
