Preamble: Court orders FIR against Union government

The Eighth Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate on Thursday ordered the RT Nagar police to register an FIR against the Centre for removing words ‘secularism’ and ‘socialism’ from the Preamble of the Constitution of India in the official advertisement of DAVP, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, on Republic Day.

The ACMM directed the RT Nagar police to conduct an investigation against the Secretary to the Information and Broadcasting, Government of India and the Director General of the Department of Advertisement and Visual Publicity of I & B Ministry, and file the Final Report by August 1.

The case was registered based on a complaint lodged by Siddharth Sharma, the State convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
