A private bank employee allegedly committed suicide at her residence in Basaveshwara Nagar on Sunday.
The deceased is identified as Sarika, 24, daughter of Anniyappa, a resident of Manjunath Nagar.
The victim’s parents had fixed her marriage with her relative Balaji, much against her wishes.
When her parents had gone to Balaji’s house at Tirupati to discuss the alliance, Sarika hanged herself from the house’s ceiling , the police said.
The incident came to light when Sarika’s brother Dilip returned home at 7 pm and there was no response to his knocks on the door. He broke open the door and found Sarika hanging from the ceiling, added the police.
The exact cause for Sarika’s extreme step is yet to be ascertained. A case has been registered.
