Labour Minister B N Bache Gowda, on Monday, assured the members in the Legislative Council that the State government would implement the recommendations of the Thomas Committee report on ITIs.
The minister was responding to a question by legislators on extending salary and pension benefits to lecturers at unaided ITIs.
Retired IAS officer Thomas had submitted a report to the State government in 2007 recommending that the benefits extended to teachers in aided educational institutions be extended to the teaching faculty at private ITIs too.
The members in the Council criticised the State government for not implementing the report even after four years of its submission.
Addressing the issue, the Labour Minister said as many as 443 lecturers, who have seven years of experience, of the 1,087 private ITIs in the State, will be eligible for the benefits recommended in the Thomas report.
A budget of Rs 70 crore will be needed to implement the recommendations of the report, he added. The minister said that he had met Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda with regard to the issue, who had assured to convene a meeting of officials of Labour and Finance departments to resolve the issue.
