A 17-year-old student was killed in a clash between student groups in Yeshwantpur, North Bengaluru, on Tuesday.

Police have withheld the names of those accused of killing Mohammed Faiz, a first-year PUC student at a private college in Ganganagar. The suspects are juveniles and their ages are yet to be ascertained.

Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects, a first-year PUC student at a college in Yeshwanthpur, and a friend of his had quarrelled with Faiz’s friend on Monday. Faiz’s friend is a PUC student at a different college.

The suspects and his friend once again fought with Faiz’s friend on Tuesday evening, prompting the besieged student to call Faiz and another companion for his support.

As Faiz and the other companion reached a place near Mangal’s Nursing Home, the suspects assaulted him and two of his companions. They fled the scene but later caught hold of Faiz and stabbed him in the throat.

“The duo (who killed Faiz) is at large. Once we nab them, we’ll come to know their exact age,” said a police officer. “The reason behind the fight is a petty one, as described by the deceased’s friends.”

A murder case has been registered at the Yeshwantpur police station.
