Two-year-old Diganth, grandson of M D Chandrashekhar, was killed when the stone bench collapsed while he was playing in the park on Police Station Road near HMT Quarters, Jalahalli, on November 7, 2009.

The Palike has not acted on the officials responsible for the shoddy work and poor maintenance of the park that led to the child’s tragic death, the protesters alleged. On insistence of the Karnataka State Human Rights Commission, Mayor S K Nataraj handed over a compensation of Rs three lakh in January this year, the relatives said.
Chandrashekhar said: “Irresponsibility, corruption and negligence among the BBMP officials were the reasons for our child’s death. The BBMP officials have not even had the courtesy to condole Diganth’s death.

“How long should we wait for justice? We are still suffering, while the negligent officials are getting away scot-free,” he added. He warned of intensifying the agitation if the Palike did not act soon and bring the errant officials to book.
