A quarrel over money spent on making a movie ended up in the murder of a web designer at Someshwaranagar in Mahalakshmi Layout in the early hours of Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Manoj (32), a resident of Someshwaranagar. His friends - Swaroop Gowda, Kamal and Gopi - sustained injuries in the murderous attack.

According to police, all the four and another person by name Ramu were consuming liquor around 12.30 am near the APMC premises when a verbal duel ensued between Gowda and Ramu.

A senior police officer said that Gowda and Ramu had together produced a movie titled ‘Danger Zone,’ which was released in 2016. The film bombed at the box office and the duo had suffered losses. Gowda had borrowed money from Ramu for making the film and the latter was pestering him for repayment.

On Friday too, Ramu asked Gowda to return the money. However, Gowda told Ramu that he had already returned the money. Soon, a brawl ensued between two drunk men with both of them punching each other. Ramu called his friends who attacked Gowda and his friends with lethal weapons. Manoj was badly injured in the attack.

Passersby who noticed the incident alerted the Mahalakshmi Layout police, who shifted the injured to a nearby hospital where Manoj was declared brought dead, police said. Manoj, a web designer,  was earlier working at a computer peripherals shop owned by Gowda. Police have launched a manhunt for Ramu, who is now absconding. Mahalakshmi Layout police have registered a case.
