Rain will start receding soon, says IMD

Deccan Herald reader Sharath Ahuja sent us this picture of a chair placed near potholes in the middle of K Kamraj Road in the central business district. Just off Kamraj Road is the famous Commercial Street, home to some of the most glitzy shops. The chair is perhaps placed by good Samaritans of the area to alert vehicle riders to the presence of the craters, so that they do not lose control of the vehicles and fall down. It is time for the authorities to sit up and take note.

Sunday turned out to be a cloudy and chill day for Bengalureans who came out of their homes to enjoy the weekend after Saturday’s successful shutdown over the Mahadayi river water dispute. There was little rain to spoil their plans.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has some good news. It has forecast a cloudy sky and a few spells of thundershowers for the next 24 hours, after which the monsoon will recede.

Geeta Agnihotri, director in-charge at IMD, Bengaluru, said the models had indicated active monsoon till July 31 and rains would come down after a day or two. Rains will recede from Monday onwards when the southwest monsoon ends.

The city received 10.5 mm rainfall up to 8.30 am on Sunday morning but there was no rainfall till 5.30 pm. The same was the case at HAL airport.

The HAL weather monitoring station recorded 8.5 mm rainfall till 8.30 am and no rainfall till 5.30 pm. The Kempegowda International Airport received 19.7 mm rainfall till 8.30 am on Sunday morning and just 0.4 mm till 5.30 pm.

Heavy rains in the last week threw normal life out of gear in the city and  inundated several residential
areas.
