Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar in which Muslims fast from dawn to dusk, will start on Saturday, after the moon was sighted on Friday evening.

The moon was reported to have been sighted in Mysore and Begapalli, Chikkaballapur.

The Central Moon-sighting Committee made the announcement after it received evidence of the moon-sighting in the two places. The testimony complied with all the requirements of Shariah, the Islamic law.

Muslims thronged mosques in Bangalore for Taraweeh, the congregational prayer at night.
The last time for Sahari (meal consumed in the morning before fasting) on Saturday is 4.40 am. The Iftar (the evening meal with which the fast is broken) timing is 6.50 pm.
