As many as 1,92,190 Ganesha and Gowri idols were immersed in the artificial lakes, mobile tankers and other avenues created by the BBMP for this occasion, on Sunday.
In comparison to the previous year when four lakh idols were immersed by the City, this year the count is expected to go even higher. The West zone saw 70,200 idols immersed. South Zone clocked the most with 85,000 idols.
Meanwhile, another 3,000 idols were immersed at the KSPCB mobile vans in the City. The KSPCB is ensuring that the water does not go waste.
A recycling process that was mooted in 2004 sees to it that the water used to immerse the idols is further utilised at the eco-park in Peenya after determining that they do not contain any heavy metals.
