Bangalore in-charge minister Ramalinga Reddy on Friday set a one-month deadline for the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to repair the City’s pothole-riddled roads.
Addressing Palike engineers and Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board BWSSB officials at a meeting, called to discuss rain-battered roads here, the minister said, “Roads have been damaged due to the rainfall that pounded the City in the last one month. Traffic has badly affected. Potholes on all arterial and sub-arterial roads should be filled in a month. Repair of roads in bad shape should be taken up.
Reddy maintained that Rs 25 lakh had been released to each of the 198 wards for road repair. Ward funds should also be utilised at ward level to fill the potholes, he added.
The minister instructed the BWSSB engineers not to dig up the earth after the roads had been asphalted. He further told the BWSSB officials to take prior permission from the ward engineers before taking up any works.
“The haphazard works of BWSSB are affecting the normal lives of people. While digging the roads and cleaning the manholes, the debris is not cleared. The places where the debris is lying should be cleared immediately,” said Reddy.
BBMP Commissioner M Lakshminarayana and Mayor N Shanthakumari were present.
