The city began recording high temperatures after a brief spell of thundershowers, which, amidst citizens’ concerns, the weather bureau says is normal for September.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded a maximum of 29.9 degree Celsius at 5.30 pm on Tuesday, which is 1.4 degree Celsius higher than normal. The normal temperature for this time of the year is 28.5 degree Celsius.
From September 1 onwards, the skies have been clear and the heat is on the rise. The minimum temperature has also been fluctuating. It stood at 19.7 degree Celsius up to 5.30 pm on Tuesday, 0.7 degree Celsius below normal.
Though citizens say it does not feel like September, the weatherman insists that this is only normal. On September 16, 1951, the city had experienced 33.3 degree Celsius, while on September 15, 2017, it was 31.1 degree Celsius and on September 20, 2016, it recorded the maximum of 30.6 degree Celsius.
IMD-Bengaluru’s Director-in-charge Geeta Agnihotri saw no reason for the temperatures to drop. She said temperatures naturally rise when the monsoon becomes weak. But as the temperatures increase, the possibility of precipitation to bring back the rains is also higher.
The IMD has forecast rainfall across the City and parts of south interior Karnataka in another two days. Weathermen also say that large-scale systems are forming over south interior Karnataka, while a cyclonic circulation is stretching up to 3.1 kms. Formation of a north-south trough upto Comorin area which could also bring widespread rain.
