The arrested is Tarun Chaudhury, 36, a Bihar native involved in real-estate dealings in Bengaluru, the police said.

On October 9, at around 10 pm, Chaudhury forcibly entered the shop owned by Gopal HV, 42, at Electronics City (Phase II). He arrived in a black Range Rover along with two of his bodyguards.

Before entering, he demanded who the shopkeeper was and when he saw Gopal, he asked his bodyguards for a stick. He then went inside and assaulted Gopal. When the victim’s wife tried to intervene, he attacked her, too.

“He warned us that if we parked the milk van in front of the shop, he would shoot us or run us over in his car. He also beat us up using his footwear,” Gopal was quoted as saying in the FIR.

A CCTV footage of the incident went viral on social media. Apart from the attack, the video also showed the suspect kicking at his two bodyguards and punching one of them, who tried to calm him down.

Chaudhury was booked under BNS Sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 126 (wrongful restraint), 133 (assault or criminal force with intent to dishonour person, otherwise than on grave provocation), 351 (criminal intimidation) and 74 (assault or use of criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty). He has been remanded in judicial custody.
