Bengaluru: Angered by his alleged girlfriend distancing herself from him, a rowdy and his associates set her car on fire and assaulted her father, the police said on Sunday.
The accused, Rahul, 26, is a notorious rowdy with multiple cases registered against him at the Hanumanthanagar police station, including assault.
The police stated that Rahul first went to the woman’s parents’ house in the CK Achukattu police station limits around 12.30 am, where he verbally abused and assaulted her father before damaging his motorcycle. Later, at 1.15 am, he reached the woman’s leased apartment near Subramanyapura, entered the parking lot, identified her Hyundai i20, and set it on fire, allegedly using petrol.
"Two people, including the rowdy, were seen entering the parking lot," a police officer said. "We suspect a few others were waiting outside. He wanted to create fear and was familiar with the family’s residences since he had visited them before."
Investigations revealed that Rahul and the woman, aged 24, had known each other since school and had been in a relationship for nine years. However, she recently distanced herself from him, which is believed to have triggered the attack.
"He does not use mobile phones, making it difficult to track him," a senior officer said. "We will arrest him soon along with his accomplices. There are also reports that he recently got married, which we are verifying."
Two special teams from the CK Achukattu and Subramanyapura police have been formed to track down Rahul and his associates.
