The deceased has been identified as Puneeth, a rowdy-sheeter within the Kadugodi police station limits. Another person who was with Puneeth suffered serious injuries and is receiving treatment at a private hospital.

The incident occurred around 9.30 pm when Puneeth was standing with his friends on Government College Road in Vijayalakshmi Colony, Kadugodi. One of his friends, Srikanth, attacked him, and three others followed, assaulting Puneeth with machetes, preliminary findings revealed.

Shivakumar Gunare, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Whitefield, said the fight may have stemmed from a petty issue.

“They attacked him with billhook machetes and other sharp objects, but the exact reason for the assault will only be known after the arrest. We have launched a manhunt for the suspects,” Gunare told DH.

Another investigator in the case said that even the suspects are rowdy-sheeters within their police station limits and were close aides of the deceased. Before the attack, the suspects and the deceased had drinks together.

The Kadugodi police have registered a case under BNS Section 103 (murder) and are continuing their investigation.

The police are reviewing CCTV footage in the vicinity to trace the suspects. They are also examining Puneeth’s case files to determine whether past rivalry may have played a role. However, investigators said that both the suspects and the deceased had previously indulged in crimes as accomplices.
