BBMP Commissioner Siddaiah has written to the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, in this regard. The Palike estimates that 20,000 acres of land where the governments have their buildings has a great potential to save water through RWH. The initiative will help prevent inundations during rain in the City.
Siddaiah, in another letter to the government, says that the Palike has asked BWSSB to stop water supply to the buildings if the rule is not adhered to. Palike sources said BWSSB had accepted the plan. The Palike Commissioner’s letter to the Principal Secretary states that implementing RWH in government buildings by the July 30 deadline will ease the burden on BWSSB to supply water, the demand for which is ever-growing in the City.
When fully implemented in the City, RWH will add 13 TMC of water to BWSSB’s kitty, which presently supplies 11 TMC of water annually.
