School teacher crushed under lorry wheels

A 21-year-old school teacher, who was riding pillion on her sister’s scooter, died on the spot after a speeding truck rammed their two-wheeler near Cottonpet main road on Wednesday morning.

According to the police, the victim, Ashwini Rajesh was an English teacher at St Catherine High School in Cottonpet. She was married to Rajesh around six months ago. Ashwini and Priyanka were residents of New Binny Layout.

The police said that Ashwini, who was late for work, asked her sister Priyanka, a PU student, to drop her to her workplace. Around 7.30 am, as they were riding near the Binny Mill junction near Cottonpet main road, a speeding truck loaded with gas cylinders rammed into them from the rear. Ashwini fell down and the wheels of the truck ran over her, killing her on the spot, while Priyanka suffered injuries.

The passersby alerted the police and informed the family members. Her husband Rajesh rushed to the spot and was inconsolable on seeing Ashwini’s body. The police shifted the body for post-mortem. Priyanka was admitted to a private hospital and is out of danger.

The driver of the lorry, Thimmaiah, who tried to flee the spot was arrested. Ashwini’s family members have donated her eyes. A case has been registered in Chickpet traffic police station.
