The state government told the Karnataka high court that security has been provided to Rakesh N, who petitioned the court to transfer the criminal cases against Rajarajeshwari Nagar MLA Munirathna N to CBI. Munirathna and a few others have been facing criminal cases for misusing nearly 9,000 voter IDs during the Assembly elections held in May 2018.

During the previous hearing, the court directed the state to extend armed protection to Rakesh, who stated that Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Raviprasad warned that his life and that of his family will be in danger if he failed to settle the issue with the MLA. The ACP issued the warning on March 19 at the city civil and sessions court premises.

Rakesh also told the court that the city police commissioner did not act on his complaint against the ACP and others on March 19.

Following the court direction, the state government said it had given security, including two gunmen, to Rakesh. Rakesh had moved the court earlier in the day saying no protection was given despite the court orders. The court took cognizance of the matter and asked the state to provide security to him by noon, failing which it warned it would summon the commissioner.
