Bus services to Andhra Pradesh were affected on Wednesday following the bandh in Seemandhra region against the creation of Telangana state.

About 200 buses of the state-run KSRTC, bound for Seemandhra during the day, could not ply due to the bandh in the neighbouring state. However, KSRTC officials said that the night services would remain unaffected. Also, 50-52 buses bound for Telangana region were diverted and plied via Bellary to their destinations.

Passengers’ safety

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Vishwanatha, general manager (traffic) of KSRTC, said, “We will wait and watch for a day to see how the situation unfolds. The safety of passengers is of prime importance and we will first ensure that. The night services do not get disrupted and it is the day services which face a hurdle.”

Meanwhile, the checking staff of KSRTC conducted checks in 48,001 buses during January, detected 5,745 pilferage cases and penalised 7,667 passengers.

During the month-long drive, the corporation netted a fine of Rs 7,71,267 and pilferage amount of Rs 90,679. Disciplinary action has been initiated against the erring staff.
