Dharmasthala-based Shantivana Trust’s initiative to hold yoga class simultaneously in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts hadgained entry into Guinness Book of Records for holding ‘largest yoga class’.

Lucia Senigagliasi, representative from Guinness World Records, London, conferred the certificate on Dr D Veerendra Heggade, chairperson, Shanthivana Trust, in a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday.

Sixty-two thousand seven-hundred ninety-seven schoolchildren from coastal districts took part in the yoga class held in December last year. Along with students, teachers and general public also took part in the event.

Veerendra Heggade, said: “We wanted to conduct the largest yoga class and create a world record in order to draw attention of the world towards yoga. I earnestly request the State and the Union governments to include yoga in the curriculum of schools, colleges and universities.”
