Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the State government would come out with a ‘perspective plan’ for the comprehensive development of the fast-growing City.
Welcoming the suggestion by Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, the chief minister said his government has already announced many programmes for the good of the City. Even a perspective plan would be considered, he added.
Thimmappa suggested to the government to develop satellite towns around Bangalore to decongest the City. Siddaramaiah even welcomed this suggestion and said satellite towns could be planned in Hoskote, Magadi and Bidadi.
K S Puttannaiah (Ind) expressed his concern that the City was bursting at the seams due to migration of people from other places. He said the demand for water from KRS may go up to 30 tmc ft from the present 20 tmc ft and urged the government to stop the growth of the City’s population.
Siddarmaiah said that the City has a population of one crore besides a floating population of 10 lakh. Garbage disposal has become a problem and infrastructure facilities are lacking.
“The situation would have been better had the previous government taken action in the last five years. The burden on us would have been lesser. The whole world is looking towards Bangalore since it is Silicon Valley.
I have already announced many programmes including Rs 4,300 crore for developing a peripheral road. The situation would be better in the next five years with both the BDA and BBMP attending to the problems,” he added.
Replying to a question by S R Vishwanath (BJP), the chief minister said a notification has been issued for acquiring land for constructing a peripheral road of 75 metres width from Tumkur Road to Hosur Road covering a distance of 65 km under phase I.
The total money required for the project, including land acquisition, construction and Intelligence Transport System is about Rs 4,300 crore. The Bangalore Development Authority, after acquiring the land would take financial assistance from Japan International Co-operation Agency for implementing the project.
To a question on reducing the width of the road to 75 metres from 100 metres, Siddaramaiah said 25 metres would be used for carving out sites. Those who do not want to take cash as compensation for parting with their land would be offered sites, he added.
