A slender loris was rescued in Sadashivanagar on Monday. Nitin, a resident of Sadashivanagar, alerted environmentalist Ashok Hallur upon finding the slender loris on a road in the locality.
Hallur and urban conservationist Vijay Nishanth reached the spot on Monday and rescued the animal. It was found to be weak and dehydrated due to heat. It was given water using a cotton ball. Its limbs were checked for injuries.
The animal was later released into the Sankey Tank habitat, they said. The slender loris, a small nocturnal primate that is endemic to Southern India and Sri Lanka, lives in remnant forest patches, in lakeside woods, as well as on large trees in the neighbourhoods within the city.
Nishanth said the animal is restricted to a few pockets in the city due to rapid urbanisation and growth of the city.
