Swachh Survekshan, dubbed the world's largest cleanliness study, began this week and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is ensuring every possible way to improve its ranking this year.
The civic body plans to install smart bins equipped with sensors that help send signals to contractors who clear the waste. It also plans to set up automated transfer stations across the city. These transfer stations will help in clearing the waste systematically.
"We have installed smart bins at the Cubbon Park and the high court. There are two separate bins for wet and dry waste and they are fitted with sensors," said BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad.
The survey will go on until March 10 and various aspects such as citizen feedback and measures taken by the Palike to segregate and process the waste will be taken into account.
The survey will be conducted in public spaces, markets, hospitals and schools. Furnishing wrong information about any issue will get the BBMP negative marking, which is a new addition to this year's survey.
"One of the most important factors to get a good rank in this survey is citizen feedback. At least 3.5 lakh people should give their feedback in a city with more than 1 crore population," a BBMP official said.
