Social Welfare Minister A Narayanaswamy on Tuesday escaped with minor injuries after his car rammed a roadside tree while travelling to Anekal.

Narayanaswamy, who was accompanied by his bodyguard Srinivas, had been on his way from Chandapura to Anekal on official business.

Nearing Marasur Gate, the driver, Shivashankar, lost control of the car after it passed over loose crushed stones on a stretch of road undergoing repairs, and rammed a tree. Members of the public helped all three men get out of the car.

Raghavendra, sub-inspector, Anekal Police, told Deccan Herald that the minister had suffered minor injuries on his forehead and was out of danger.

His driver Shivashankar and gunman Srinivas have sustained more serious injuries and have been admitted to Sparsh Hospital in Bangalore. They too are out of danger, he said.

Narayanaswamy, who was admitted to the Narayana Hrudayalaya, was later discharged, according to Dr Sharan Patil, chairperson of Sparsh Hospital.

“A CT (computed tomography) scan was performed on him and no internal injuries were found,” Patil said. “However, Srinivas has suffered a shoulder fracture and Shivashankar has a blunt cut on his chest. Both are undergoing treatment,” he said.
