Speeding lorry kills two

Two people were killed and another person seriously injured in an accident at Chandapura, Hebbagodi Saturday afternoon. The deceased have been identified as Ramakka, 50, of Chandapura and Mahadeva, 45, of Banahalli.

The accident occurred after a 14-wheel container lorry, speeding down from the Chandapur flyover, struck Ramakka, a labourer, who was walking by the side of the road. Ramakka was killed on the spot. The lorry then hit a bike from behind, killing the pillion rider, Mahadeva, instantly.

Mahadeva was working as a plumber in Bommanahalli. The bike rider, Raju, was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Doctors said that he had suffered serious injuries, but added that his condition was now stable.

The bodies have been moved to Victoria Hospital for autopsy, which has been scheduled for Sunday morning, police said. Hebbagodi police have registered a case. Police sources said that the container lorry driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. The vehicle has been seized.

Arrest warrants

A local court has issued arrest warrants against chairman Deepak Bhagawandas Raheja and director Aditya D Raheja of Raheja Chambers, in connection with a case pertaining to dishonour of a cheque.

The 16th ACMM court issued the warrants for the father-son duo in a case that dates back to 2009.

Complainant Santosh Kumar told Deccan Herald that he had been employed as a broker by Raheja Chambers in connection with their Pebble Bay project. He said that after a delay in payment, the Chambers gave him a cheque for Rs 12.94 crore early 2009, and asked him to encash it by April 2009.

However, the cheque, when presented for encashment, returned dishonoured.

Victims identified

The two teenage girls who reportedly committed suicide by lying on the tracks near Byappanahalli have been identified as Tejaswini R Reddy and Jabeera, both residents of Electronics City.
