“The Government has decided to forgo the interest rates on water bills and also extend the same benefit for their electricity bills,” he said. Launching a series of measures under the BBMP umbrella, Kumar also flagged off cars and vans given to the unemployed and weaker sections of society with little or no source of income for their livelihood.
The programme under the BBMP also saw the minister distribute certificates of completion of courses in computer applications, beautician and others, to individuals who had enrolled under the Palike schemes. “I hope that the individuals will utilise these opportunities to safeguard their future,” he said. It also launched the programme of mid-day meal schemes for the elderly and disabled. The scheme will see that the people will be given free food by various organisations and NGOs.
