The Karnataka State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights will conduct an inspection at the Bishop Cotton Girls’ School where some students were allegedly roughed up last week.

A number of students were reportedly roughed up and verbally abused by two men from the management when they staged a protest last Friday against the installation of a new principal. An FIR was subsequently filed at the Cubbon Park police station by a former teacher against the management.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Fr Edward Thomas, a member of the commission, said, “I have found out from official sources that negotiations within the management are going on with regard to the dispute of the installation of a new principal. The commission will conduct an inspection and talk to students as well as the staff.”

Meanwhile, the Block Education Officer, North-3, under whose jurisdiction the school falls, visited the school on Monday. “It is a matter of internal dispute and we will compile a report on the matter very soon,” said the BEO, V Ramesh.
