Students from the State performed well in the engineering stream of the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (ComedK) undergraduate test, with eight of them in the top 10.

Three among the top 10 in the medical stream also hail from the State. The ComedK announced the results of the UGET here on Monday.  Unlike the state-level CET, this entrance test is open to candidates from across the country.

Priya Narwal, a student from the City, who had topped the CET exam too, secured the top rank in the medical stream, while Kommuru Alekhya Reddy, another City-based student who was among the top five in CET, has topped the engineering stream.

The entrance test was held in May. As many as 70,968 candidates had applied for medical undergraduate entrance test, but only 57,885 candidates wrote it. For engineering, 51,221 candidates applied and 43,981 candidates wrote the test.

ComedK officials attributed the rise in the number of ranked students from Karnataka students in the engineering stream to the overall rise in the number of students taking the exam. Of the 43,981 who appeared for the engineering test, 21,300 (48 per cent) are from the State.  Students from Karnataka seem more inclined towards engineering, he added.

As for the medical stream, 27,395 candidates are declared eligible for the counselling process. Of these, 7,450 are from Karnataka and 2,747 are from Bengaluru city.
There are around 750 MBBS and an equal number of BDS seats available in the 14 Medical and 24 Dental colleges that are part of the consortium. The cut-off rank for a medical UG programme for the year 2014 was 2,456 for the general merit category, according to an official release from the ComedK.

Candidates can also download rank cards by accessing it with their unique user ID and password. College-wise and course-wise cut-off details are available on the website.

The seat matrix and course fees, along with the counselling details, would be updated shortly, said ComedK Chief Executive A S Srikanth.
