Historian Ramachandra Guha regretted on Saturday that only the stick, flag and bullets had come to denote nationalism in the country.
He was addressing the gathering at the session on 'aggressive nationalism versus nationalism' organised as part of the Bangalore Literature Fest.
"Aggressive nationalism on the lines of Bangladesh, where hatred for Hindus grew, is on the rise in India. People like Gauri Lankesh, M M Kalburgi, Dabholkar and Pansare became victims of such hatred. There is a tendency in the country of not accepting pluralism," he said.
He said Congress' corruption and defeat of the Left's ideology had led to the current situation. Guha rued that the Congress, which played a key role in the freedom struggle, was restricted to a single family now.
