Amid a rise in Covid-19 cases, the Centre has written to seven states, including Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Delhi, asking them to step up vaccination.

Students queued up before BMTC bus pass counters at Majestic station on Wednesday to avail the passes.

Thursday is the last day when they could commute on city buses by using their pass acknowledgement document. From Friday onwards they must have the bus pass with them to commute.

Due to the delay in issuing of passes, for almost three months, the corporation had allowed them to travel by showing college admission form and the acknowledgement confirming that they have applied for the pass.

The queue at the Kempegowda Bus Station was marginal but many of those in the queue said some of their friends were yet to get the pass.

Yashwanth, a student of East West College in Yelahanka, who accompanied his friends, said those who had applied late were standing in the queue and there may be many others.

A senior BMTC official said there was no decision on allowing students without a pass to travel.

"Most of the students have obtained the pass. Only a handful applications are pending. We will clear the application in a day or two. Those with acknowledgement were given several extensions to get the pass," the official said.
