A 51-year-old Sudanese woman weighing around 207 kgs successfully underwent bariatric surgery at Aster CMI Hospital recently.

Sadia Mohammed, the sister of one of the cabinet minister of the Republic of Sudan, initially went to Germany for weight loss surgery but was not successful.

Dr H V Shivaram, chief of bariatric and metabolic surgery at the hospital, said Sadia's body mass index (BMI) was 72 (normal BMI is 24). She had massive lower limb swellings, skin ulcerations, had difficulty in breathing, and was wheelchair bound.
