Bengaluru: Police on Saturday raided a rave party on the outskirts of Bengaluru, officials said. As many as 102 participants were at the spot, officials said, adding they underwent a medical test (urine and blood) at a district hospital to ascertain if any narcotics were consumed.

Among those, 35 were women, while three were minor boys. “The average age of the adult participants was between 21 and 32. All were from Bengaluru and were students and working professionals, including some engineers,” a senior officer told DH.

Based on a tip off, investigators from the Kaggalipura station launched the search operations in the wee hours at the property near Devigere Cross, where the rave party was underway. R Srinivas Gowda, Superintendent of Police (SP), Bengaluru South district, oversaw the operation.

The party was reportedly well-organised with invites sent via social media and messaging apps. Preliminary probe by the police revealed that a WhatsApp communique was sent to the participants to be shared among their close circles only.

“There was a WhatsApp group called Gen-Z. We suspect they used this and other social media platforms to spread the message, pay the entry fee and book their spot. The location was shared at the last minute,” another officer said.

Investigators recovered e-cigarettes, some stubs — unclear if they were normal cigarettes or ganja joints – and 10 grams of ganja.

“The ganja was thrown away, so we don’t know who it belonged to. It was also learnt that alcohol was served to those below 21 years. All the recovered contraband was further sent for forensic analysis,” the officer quoted previously said.

Superintendent of Police R Srinivas Gowda revealed that the organisers were detained for questioning.

"The property had no permission but operated as a homestay. The investigators have made certain recoveries that will be forensically analysed. Five people, including a woman, were the organisers. The owners were also at the spot during the raid. They have been questioned. Prima facie, looking at their social media, it appears such parties have happened previously. It will be verified," Gowda added.

Kaggalipura police registered the FIR under Sections 292 (punishment for public nuisance in cases not otherwise provided for) and 296 (obscene acts and songs) of BNS, 15A (consumption or allowing consumption of liquor unlicensed public places) and 32 (penalty for illegal import, etc) of the Excise Act, 37 (licensing use of loudspeakers) of the Karnataka Police Act and relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

“Owners, organisers and participants were named in the FIR. Notices were served,” a police officer said.
