The High Grounds police on Friday arrested a software engineer on the charges of domestic violence, rape and cheating the girl he had married recently.

The arrested has been identified as Shamin Raj Nadaf, 28, a resident of Whitefield and native of Davangere. According to police, he came in contact with the victim, an MBA student, through a matrimonial site. The parents of Nadaf and the girl had consented for their marriage. However, they took some time to prepare for the marriage. The couple, in the meanwhile, developed physical intimacy, police said.

On June 1, the victim made an attempt to lodge a complaint accusing Shamin of raping her. However, the latter’s father assured the victim that his son would marry her. Accordingly, they got married on June 3.

However, soon after marriage, Shamin and his family refused to take the girl to their home after which the girl lodged a complaint.

The victim, according to the police, alleged that Shamin’s father, a retired police inspector, masterminded the plan to get them married.

A case under Section 498A has been registered against Shamin and his father.
