A local court on Tuesday convicted a 28-year-old techie for possessing narcotic drugs, sentencing him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1.85 lakh.
The 33rd Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge and Special Judge for NDPS cases punished Venkat Subramaniam under three sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and his jail sentence was to run concurrently for 10 years in total. The case was proved beyond doubt in court.
A native of Coimbatore, who worked for Accenture, Subramaniam was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) sleuths from his house in Vignana Nagar in Bengaluru on June 23, 2015.
The sleuths seized different varieties of contraband narcotic party drugs from his residence, including cocaine, LSD blotter papers, LSD crystals, MDMA, marijuana and hashish, besides Rs 3.45 lakh in cash.
Graduating from Coimbatore's Amrita School of Engineering, Subramaniam - a drug addict - was collecting narcotic substances from various sources, NCB sleuths said.
The sleuths had information that a drug peddler was buying contraband substances from Subramaniam for supplying to parties.
Further investigations revealed that Subramaniam was himself providing drugs to rave parties directly via his contacts, many of whom were in touch with him through social media.
