Techie mows down labourers

A software engineer was arrested for driving his car recklessly under the influence of alcohol and killing two labourers in a road accident in Madivala traffic police limits on early Saturday morning. The suspect was identified as Baljith Singh (36), a resident of Prabhavathi Paradise at Kasavanahalli.

According to the police, Singh hails from Punjab and came to the City four years ago. He was staying with his wife, a teacher with an international school, added the police.

Singh was returning home in an inebriated state. He failed to notice two pedestrians Mala, 42 and Chinnapaiah, 48, both neighbours and residents of Kaikondanahalli, and mowed them down. They were tossed up in the air, fell down and were killed on the spot due to serious injuries. They had gone to a church and were returning home when the accident occurred around 1 am, said the police.

The night patrol police rushed to the spot and took Singh into the custody. He was subjected to the alcometer test and the alcohol content in his blood was 500 times higher than the normal range, added the police.
