The incident took place on December 20.

The police said the suspect noticed a locked house while walking through the area, which appeared unusually quiet. Seizing the opportunity, he broke the front door lock, entered the house, and stole gold ornaments and cash.

The crime came to light when a neighbour noticed the broken lock a few hours later and alerted the homeowner. The owner subsequently filed a police complaint.

Investigators analysed CCTV footage from the area and tracked the suspect to the Shettihalli railway gate on January 6. During questioning, the minor confessed to the crime, leading the police to recover the stolen gold from a jeweller in Laggere, North Bengaluru.

The boy was presented before the juvenile court, which referred him to the Juvenile Justice Board for further proceedings.
