The authorities of the Suryanarayana Temple in Domlur on Tuesday undertook before the High Court to clear the path for construction of a road to private layouts through a stretch of Defence land by demolishing the compound wall of the temple within 48 hours.

The Defence Ministry had moved the Court seeking contempt action against the Palike for not constructing roads to provide connectivity to private layouts.

The Palike had expressed its inability to construct the road despite the directions from the High Court stating that the temple authorities had refused to part with the land. It had claimed that the temple authorities had encroached upon the land and obtained an injunction order against the demolition of the wall.

While disposing off the seven-year-old matter, the court upheld the contention of the Defence Ministry that public will not be allowed near the three wells on the Defence land and ruled that the ownership of the proposed road will be vested with the Defence Ministry.

The Bench directed the temple authorities to demolish the wall and the BBMP to provide road connectivity to the private layouts within two weeks.
