The mishap occurred when the maxi cab driver attempted to overtake the container around 11 pm.
An injured person is still entangled in one of the vehicles whereas the bodies of the dead have been taken to the M S Ramaiah Hospital for post-mortem.
Identity of the deceased and that of the injured were being ascertained, police added. The container truck was loaded with metal sheets whereas the maxi cab was carrying passengers to the City. Peenya police have booked a case.
