Bengaluru Police Commissioner M N Reddi on Tuesday issued orders banning Praveen Togadia, international working president, Vishwa Hindu Parishat (VHP), from entering Bengaluru City for seven days from February 5 to 11.

According to a press release by the Police Commissioner, Section 144(3) CrPC has been imposed on Togadia.

He will not be allowed to attend any function or hold rally in the City police limits for seven days. The decision was taken after examining and discussing detailed reports submitted by a few police officers on Togadia.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s Swarna Jayanti Utsava Samiti will be organising “Virat Hindu Samajotsava” at the National College Grounds in Basavanagudi on February 8. A large number of VHP, Bajarang Dal and Srirama Sena followers from the City, from Bengaluru Rural, Tumakuru, Kolar, Ramanagara and other neighbouring areas are expected to take part in the event.

Permission sought

The organisers have approached the City police seeking permission to conduct the event and had also mentioned that Togadia would address the gathering.Subsequently, the police decided to ban his entry in view of several provocative and inflammatory speeches by him in the past, in various parts of the State.

A senior police officer said, “His speeches might result in untoward incidents in the City. We do not want to take any chances, hence the ban.”
