The tenders invited by BBMP to build 80 skywalks on busy roads have received lukewarm response from contractors.

Tenders pertaining to many of the skywalks invited for the second or third time too drew a blank.

An engineer in the infrastructure department said contractors were backing away due to some tough conditions, including installation of closed-circuit television cameras, providing security guards, decoration with flower pots, daily cleaning of skywalks and Rs 5,000 fine per day for delay in finishing the project within the stipulated time.

Skywalks have been planned near Mysuru Road bus station, Jayanagar 4th Block, Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, Silk Board Junction and HAL post office among other places with heavy traffic.

But the two tenders called for skywalks at these places did not receive any response.
A third tender has been called for the proposed skywalks at Jalahalli Cross, Church bus stand in Ramamurthy Nagar, Garden City College in Byatarayanahalli, SJES College in KR Puram, Iskcon in Rajajinagar, HMT Road in Mathikere, Kuvempu Circle on Old Airport Road and St Joseph’s School on Lalbagh Road.
