Traffic came to a grinding halt in and around the Majestic area on Wednesday night as a large number of outbound passengers scrambled to board additional buses ahead of the festival and the weekend.

The traffic jam also affected vehicular movement in the Central Business District. Police said vehicles moved at a snail’s place for two hours.

Bumper-to-bumper traffic began around 8 pm before the situation eased around 11 pm. Some major roads hit by the jam were KG Road, JC Road, Platform Road, Seshadri Road, Goods Shed Road, Cottonpet Main Road and Mysore Road.

There was a similar situation in K R Circle, Seshadripuram, Okalipuram, parts of Dr Rajkumar Road, Richmond Road, Raja Rammohun Roy Road, Residency Road and Tumkur Road in Yeshwantpur. Similar jams were reported around other bus terminuses.
Additional personnel were deployed in and around the Kempegowda Bus Station and City railway station to regulate traffic. The police fear the situation may worsen on Thursday.
