The Transport department will intensify drives against maxi cabs, buses and other private vehicles that are illegally ferrying passengers across the City, said Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy.

Speaking to mediapersons here Reddy said that BMTC was facing heavy losses as  private vehicles such as maxi cabs, tempo travellers and cabs were plying illegally.

He added that due to staff shortage in the department it had become difficult to keep tabs on these vehicles. “ BMTC has agreed to deploy some of its staff to keep a check on vehicles that are plying illegally. Drives will be intensified in the coming days,” the minister said.

When asked about the low frequency of BMTC buses at night, Reddy said that a survey was being carried out to identify routes where there are no bus services at night. After the survey, more buses are likely to soon start plying at night, he added.
