Bengaluru: A 25-year-old law student living alone in Electronics City was forced to transfer money at knife point after three men allegedly held her pet cat hostage during a robbery.
Police said three unidentified men barged into her flat on Monday around 7 pm. One of them repeatedly knocked on the door and, once she opened it, snatched her phone as two others entered and began ransacking the house.
When they failed to find any valuables, they allegedly threatened to harm her cat and compelled her to transfer Rs 5,100 via UPI. They forced her to reveal her bank account details and questioned her about her balance.
After searching the flat for nearly half an hour, one of the men tried to snatch her gold jewellery. She raised an alarm, prompting the trio to flee.
Electronic City police said they have obtained CCTV footage showing the movements of the accused and are confident of tracking them down.
Speaking to DH, the victim said she had recently moved into the apartment at Neeladri Nagar after completing her law course and was living alone with her two-and-a-half-month-old cat.
She said the prime accused barged into the flat, grabbed her pet and threatened to kill it if she did not hand over her valuables. “When I told them I had nothing to give, they checked both my bank accounts and forced me to transfer money,” she said.
“As one of them tried to snatch my diamond earrings, I started screaming and they ran away fearing they would be caught. I rushed down and alerted our building owner, who called the police. The building has no security guard, but it has CCTV cameras. Police have recovered the footage as part of the investigation,” she said.
