The suspect, identified as Navyashree K M, a contract-based psychologist assigned to the hospital wing of the central prison, allegedly tried to sneak a Redmi mobile phone into the prison on Friday, according to the FIR.

During a routine security check conducted by personnel from the Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF), Navyashree was intercepted after a Hand-Held Metal Detector (HHMD) signalled the presence of a concealed object. Upon further inspection, prison officials recovered the mobile phone, which she had reportedly hidden in her private parts.

Navyashree was immediately handed over to the Parappana Agrahara police, and an FIR was registered under Section 323 of the BNS (dishonest or fraudulent concealment of property) and relevant sections of the Karnataka Prisons Act.

A senior police officer overseeing the investigation told DH that the suspect intended to hand over the phone to an undertrial prisoner.

“We are currently investigating who the intended recipient was, and how Navyashree was linked to the prisoner,” the officer said.

Police are also looking into the possibility that Navyashree may have smuggled in mobile phones on previous occasions.
