A team of 12 policemen of striking force of CAR (North) were assigned the duty of providing security to Karunanidhi, who was visiting his daughter residing in Talaghattapura in the City.

Karunanidhi left his daughter’s house around 8 am and was heading towards Bangalore International Airport. The striking force men were following Karunanidhi’s pilot car.
Seconds after the pilot car climbed the flyover, the driver applied brakes slowing down the car to navigate a curve. However, the van driver, who was driving at a high speed, lost control of the vehicle. To avoid hitting the car, he took a sharp turn. The van partially touched the flyover’s parapet and turned upside down.

The two injured constables, Chandre Gowda and Giri, were rushed to MS Ramaiah Hospital, while the rest escaped unhurt. Karunanidhi visited the constables in the hospital and enquired them about their health, before proceeding towards the airport.
