District in-charge Minister Ramalinga Reddy on Friday inaugurated two skywalks – near Christ College and at Marathahalli.

The elevated pedways have been built under the public-private-partnership mode where the advertisers themselves have agreed to bear the expenses of putting up the infrastructure under DBOOT (develop, build, own, operate and transfer) basis on a 20-year contract.

The skywalk at Christ College has been built by Rajdeep Skywalks Limited at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore and the one at Marathahalli by Prakash Arts Private Limited at Rs 2.25 crore.

Both skywalks have lift facility and closed-circuit cameras for the safety of its users.Speaking to reporters, Reddy said 20 more skywalks were being planned across the City with escalators and round-the-clock security and electricity.

He said old skywalks without lifts would soon get escalator facilities and an order in this regard would be passed.
